About us


Increasingly, the cutting edge issues addressed at the School of Engineering and the Graduate School of Engineering are becoming interdisciplinary and going beyond specific fields. The primary mission of the Institute of Innovation in International Engineering Education (IIIEE) is to provide students with strong foundations on which to improve their abilities to detect and understand challenging questions, to assist them in learning relevant problem resolution methods while maintaining a sense of originality, and to support them in advancing their abilities.

IIIEE assists Japanese students to prepare for challenging international activities and broadens foreign students' opportunity to learn a variety of fields by upgrading classes taught in English, and thereby further internationalizes the campus. Constant efforts to reform the current engineering education will be made by developing teaching materials and improving the methods by feeding back the impacts of current education. IIIEE assists comprehensively foreign students and researchers, promotes international projects, and establishes international agreement to enhance mutual interaction. IIIEE also supports collaborative research projects, which contribute engineering education.

To assist the Graduate School of Engineering and the Faculty of Engineering endeavoring to promote research and education to an effective advancement, sharing the themes of its challenges with other organizations, IIIEE will undertake these tasks in a cross-cutting and flexible manner traversing wide breadth of fields.

Global Education Systems Project



国際工学教育プロジェクトでは、第1に"セルフオリエンテーション"可能な教育システムの構築を目指しています。第2には、変化に対応して、継続的に改 善・発展しうる教育システムを提案していきます。第3には、発展し続ける情報通信(ICT)システムの最大限の利用を目指しています。

Global Ware Project 



The Global Ware Project provides education focussing on international communication skills. This does not only include English language training for Japanese students, but also learning to understand various cultures, working and discussing in international teams, taking initiative and leadership, and presenting your research effectively to an international audience.

国際化推進部門では、主に学内の日本人をはじめとする英語を母国語としない学生のための国際コミュニケーション能力の教育をおこなっている。国際 コミュニ ケーション能力と一口に言ってもそのなかには多様な意味が包含されている。単なる英語教育だけではなくコミュニケーション能力の育成、多様な文化 の理解、 国際性、あるいは国際的な場で発揮することのできるリーダーシップなどを涵養することをここでは意味している。

Center for Engineering Fundamentals



We compile the UTokyo course of engineering in order to offer an established engineering education system that leads to the development of world class talent in the engineering field and special areas of study.

工学教程の編纂を中心に、高度人材育成のための工学教育基盤を強化します。 工学の基盤を「工学教程」と題した教科書シリーズとして編纂し、刊行を進めています。

Editing the Teaching and Learning Fundamentals



With the International Organization for the Promotion of Engineering Education at the core, the production of a textbook series entitled "The Engineering Curriculum" is ongoing. In addition to including the information students should be learning, the texts also include guidelines for what instructors should be teaching.


Advanced Engineering Education



工学教育高度化部門では、第1に"セルフオリエンテーション"可能な教育システムの構築を目指しています。第2には、変化に対応して、継続的に改善・発展 しうる教育システムを提案していきます。第3には、発展し続ける情報通信(ICT)システムの最大限の利用を目指しています。

Education Research and Evaluation



教育調査・評価部門では、工学部、工学系研究科の教育・研究プログラムについての学生アンケート継続調査などによる分析評価、及び工学教育に関する外部動 向調査と分析を行なっています。結果は、教育プログラムの継続的な改善、高度化、グローバル化における指針の提示などに反映しています。

Center for International Affairs



We support the admission of international students and researchers, provide Japanese language education, and promote exchange with institutions overseas.


Office of International Cooperation and Exchange



The Office of International Cooperation and Exchange is a department which carries out and manages international cooperation agreements with overseas universities and institutions, sends and receives foreign exchange students based on exchange agreements, supports study abroad for enrolled students, assists with international exchange programs such as JSPS, conducts planning and regulation of a project for Establishing University Network for Internationalization (Global 30), and manages visitors from overseas. It collaborates closely with other departments and promotes international cooperation activities.

国際連携推進部門は海外の大学等との国際交流協定の締結・整備、協定に基づく交換留学生 の派遣・受入の実施、在学生の留学支援、日本学術振興会等の国際交流事業の支援、大学の国際化のためのネットワーク形成推進事業(グローバル30)の企 画・調整、海外からの来訪者対応等を実施している部門です。他の部署とも密接に連携し、国際交流活動を推進しています。

Office of International Students



The Office of International Students (OIS) supports academic and campus life for international students with various cultures and historical backgrounds from about 85 countries. We manage MEXT scholarship students, foreign government scholarship students, and private scholarships students. We manage applications for dormitories. We also manage privately-financed research students. We endeavor to make a comfortable, global campus life for international students.

東京大学工学系研究科国際推進課留学生支援チームは、世界約85カ国から集まってくる留学生のキャンパスライフをサポートしております。文部科学省奨学金 や民間奨学金の管理、大学寮の申請、私費研究生の管理などを行っております。留学生が安心して充実した研究生活を送れるように環境基盤作りに取り組んでお ります。

Japanese Language Class



The Japanese Language Classes at the School of Engineering (JLCse) provide a variety of support programs for international students, researchers, and their spouses. These programs include Japanese language and culture courses. We offer 34 courses at 7 levels, from introductory to advanced. Currently, approximately 300 students from about 40 countries are studying at the JLCse. In addition, there are opportunities to join various cultural events and practice Japanese with Japanese volunteers both inside and outside the classroom.

日本語教育部門では、留学生や外国人研究員、配偶者に対しての研究と生活のサポートの一 環として日本語・日本文化事情教育を行っています。授業は、入門から上級レベルまで7レベルにわたり、34コースあり、現在約40か国から300人の留学 生が勉強しています。また授業内外で、様々な行事への参加や、ボランティアの方々と日本語を話す機会を設けています。

The University of Tokyo Wuxi Representative Office



The Wuxi office was set up by the School of Engineering in November, 2005. New activities between Japan and China in the fields of education, research, and industry-academic collaboration are proposed and promoted in cooperation with the University of Tokyo's Beijing Office.
The primary activities of the office consist of the organization of forums and conferences relating to the environment and energy technology, and the implementation of industry-academic projects related to environmentally friendly processing technologies such as lead free packaging and environmental analysis (in cooperation with Japanese industry resources and Chinese universities). The Wuxi office also supports information/student exchanges between UT/Japan, Chinese universities, and the government. Support for academic agreements between UT and Chinese universities is also supplied by the Wuxi office.
  In the future, industry-academic activities will expand to encompass new energies, information, and society. Support is expected to be provided to research conducted by teachers in the School of Engineering and to activities conducted by other faculties.

  これまでの主な活動といたしましては、環境、エネルギー分野における国際フォーラムの主催・協賛、鉛フリー実装技術、環境分析等の環境調和製造プロセ スに関する日本企業、中国大学との産学連携研究の実施、中国大学・企業、中国政府との環境技術に関する情報交換、関係研究者・技術者の相互訪問のアレン ジ、大学間の学術協定設置の支援などがあります。

Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Education Collaboration




We provide interdisciplinary courses and research at the School of Engineering through the funding from and in collaboration with outside industries.

Social Cooperation Program "Energy Efficient Information Processing"



The purpose of this social cooperative program is to perform fundamental research on next-generation high-performance energy-efficient computing systems and devices.

本講座の目的は、システム研究者(理論およびアルゴリズム開発が専門)と デバイス研究者(実験および開発が専門)が協力して、新しい原理に基づく省エネルギーの計算デバイスを 開発するための基礎研究を目的としています。
